Timber Frame Process

Your hand-crafted frame will pass through... 

Steps & Key Points Time & Cost 

Deposit & Timber Order
• receive deposit from client with signed purchase contract
• prepare timber take-off from design and submit to sawmill Deposit is 30-40% of contract value.

Timber orders are sent to the sawmill in 1 - 2 days
Rough-sawn Timbers Arrive
• sawmill cutting times vary depending on time of year, species and other orders
• we resize and square timbers on our big planer

Timbers arrive 4 – 6 weeks following order
Layout & Cutting
• as timbers flow from the planer into the shop they are prepared for cutting by our layout team which carefully marks the required joinery on each piece
• joinery cutters receive timbers and use saws, mortisers, mallets and chisels to precisely shape each timber (see our staff list for photos of the guys at work) Varies based on size of project and prior orders in process. Allow one week for every 1000 sq. ft. of living area that is timbered.

Test Fitting & Wrapping
• as the frame approaches completion our fitting team test assembles truss and wall sections and prepares pegging and brace connections
• once a section has been tested and prepared it’s bundled into lifts and made ready for shipping
3 - 5 days for most projects
2nd payment (40%) is required prior to shipping

Delivery & Raising
• frames arrive at most NA locations within 3 days, whilst UK containers require 20-25 days for transit
• raising time varies with size, location and complexity
Frame raising can vary from 1 day to a week or more
