Churchill Wild ![]() Cornerstone’s “far north” record is now held by Yvan Perreault of Classic Trends Construction. Yvan stopped recently to share some pictures of a timber frame dining room installation at a remote wildlife viewing lodge on the Hudson Bay coastline in northern Manitoba. Our timbers made the journey last March, first by truck from our shop to Thompson, then by train to Churchill. Rushing against time, Yvan loaded the timber frame and a mountain of building supplies onto an “ice train”, (a D9 Caterpillar towing a line of sleds), that travelled 60 miles over melting sea ice to the “Churchill Wild!” building site. Timbers were lifted with the aid of a block and tackle and the last eave beam was lifted into place as a July rainstorm moved in across the tundra.
Thanks go out to all the polar bears who stayed at a respectful distance during the raising and enclosing of the new addition! For more details on this wilderness location check out their website: www.churchillwild.com

May 2009 Cornerstone attended the Saskatoon Log & Cottage Show along with Blaine Epp & Jared Epp of Natural Concepts. The Epp's (yes, more proof that brothers can get along well in adult life) are providing consultation and contracting services for our Saskatchewan clients. Blaine brings extensive building experience and Jared's wind powered home is a great example of a natural building approach that combines beauty with earth friendly features. If you live in Saskatchewan, call Jared Epp at 306-292-8223 and arrange a time to see his really cool home. You may even get to see some border collies at work :)
April 2009 Manigotagan, MB – It’s a real honor to provide a timber frame for the new Hollow Water Church which is slated for a mid-February raising. The Archdiocese of Winnipeg and local parishioners wanted to use more natural materials in this sanctuary and timber frame was a perfect fit. Two beautiful 40’ parallel chord trusses carry the cathedral roof over the nave and chancel. The roof of the chancel rises over the main roof and the timber frame here incorporates a cross which will frame large windows on the apse wall. Local builder, Omer Dube of Bluewater Construction (Powerview, MB) expects the church to be ready for dedication in the spring. Check back soon for pictures of the frame raising! February 2009 Minneapolis, MN – The weather turned mild just in time for this mid-winter raising at a lakefront property west of the Twin Cities. Project foreman, Dave Gerold of New Prague provided crew and equipment to raise the 4500 sq. ft. timber frame over a five day period. The timbers are select “standing dead” douglas fir from British Columbia and will beautifully complement the interior décor. Notice the parallel chord trusses, numerous dormers and the hammer beam truss in the central great room. If you are looking for a quality builder in the south metro area we can happily recommend that you contact Gerold Brothers and see them online at: www.geroldbrothershomes.com See the raising gallery for more pictures of this raising! ![]() Imagine a cottage that is designed to be shared… a lakefront duplex with common foundation, roof and deck but private eating, great room and master suites. The pictures from a recently completed project illustrate how well timber can be used to create a sense of warmth and beauty in a smaller space, in this case two identical 815 sq. ft. floor plans joined at a shared “ridgewall”. If you’re looking for something out of the ordinary, whether small or large, we’re ready to hear your ideas and share our design expertise. Call Gary or Tanya to get started. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() June ![]() |
